
I pulled the chart you see from a great study on what the authors termed “Organic Physical Fitness.” It details common hunter-gatherer activities against modern chores that could be equated as well as at energy dedicated to the particular task.
Although not by choice, ancient man was a busy guy. This we know. We also know that technology has given man the opportunity to have a choice between a high activity lifestyle and a low activity one. Manual labor has essentially been eliminated for an entire cast of modern man. Remembering this, I felt relived considering that this week I have only checked off three of the modern equivalents listed above. I carry a mean backpack, but ancient man is killing me right now.
